The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) has called for greater use of digital technology and stronger professional supervision to improve construction quality and reduce building failures. NIOB Lagos Chairman Rasheed Owolabi made the call on September 24 in Lagos ahead of the 2026 Lagos Builders' Conference and AGM. He identified Building Information Modelling, drones, digital documentation and remote monitoring as tools that can improve procurement, project monitoring, quality control and cost management.

The conference, themed “Smart Building Processes in the Digital Age: Procurement, Monitoring, Control and Quality Management for Sustainable Construction,” is scheduled for October 7–8 in Lagos.

MARKET WATCH:

This reflects a broader shift in the Lagos construction market from simply putting up buildings to improving how projects are procured, monitored and delivered. For developers and investors, digital project management can help reduce waste, improve documentation and identify construction problems earlier. But technology does not replace professional competence, supervision and regulatory compliance.
